Otalia is so much fun to watch. I know some people give the show a heard time about the fact that these women do not consider themselves lesbians. I wouldn’t call them lesbians either. I think they are just two women who fell in love with each other and not because they are both female but because of who each of them are. Emma is a clueless cute as a button child and Rafe’s over reaction was great to watch. What I love about this story most is that Natalia comes off as waifish and everyone of course thinks Olivia is forcing her into something. Really it’s Natalia that wants what she wants. She stood up to her parish priest who told her she was sinning and had to stop because it was wrong. She told Father Ray that she knows what the church says but she counters with how could this love that feels so right be wrong…she just won’t believe it. It’s just a wonderful love story to watch. I kind of think it’s funny that one of the most Romantic Couples in Daytime is a Woman with Woman coupling ![]()

GL is getting better with their new format. The camera work is significantly improved and the editing is a choppy. One last piece to the is puzzle and I think it will all come together and that is the writing. Where ar the storylines? They should be easier to follow but right now I feel lost in the outdoor shots. I’m glad I hung in there though because it was worth it.

Reva’s pregnant? Dude are you serious? Was she drinking Chianti in some small Italian village? This storyline would have played better if she was carrying her own grandchild than if she was carrying her own child.

There’s been much said about the new format of GL. I’ve decided to weigh in with my opinion. I’ve been watching GL since about 1987. Roger Thorpe and Maureen Bauer were two of my favorite characters both are gone now.
I totally understand the reasons behind the new format. It’s all money related. What I do not understand is the reasoning behind doing a piss poor job with what little they have to work with. I know high school seniors who have better ability using a camera and editing with their Mac’s than what’s being aired.
In England they’ve run a show for 23 years called The East Enders. It has a similar format for production. Actual location sets (4 walls and ceiling internal) and outside shoots. The difference between this successful format and the one that GL is broadcasting are these:
- So EXTREME a close up that the person sometimes is partial cut out of the shot.
- Edits that do not flow from camera to camera (if this is an issue then it’s time to limit the number of cameras).
- Two of the three cameras being used have extreme shakiness. One operator actually seems to understand how to use the equipment.
- The dialog is part of a storyline. There is a reason why people are saying what they are saying. On GL the storylines are segmented and disjointed.
Now let me tackle the “Bauer BBQ” that aired on Friday. Besides the fact that the editing is done by a bunch of crazy people or maybe it’s the best they can do with the tapes shot but the escaped Monkeys from the zoo. Which explains the lack of knowledge of the cameras.
Anyway, the show was depressing at best and more depressing at worse. The only thing that saved the show was Buzz and Lillian coming out of the bushes 1/2 dress (thanks for the chuckle), Beth mentioning all of the Bauers of yester year and Marcy Rylan’s vision of Lizzie. For me Marcy is the only saving grace right now. How is it this girl hasn’t won and Emmy? Oh right they only award that award to Michael Landon’s daughter.
Marcy makes the scenes pop. She has emotion that is surely lacking in many of the cast members. Her chemistry with Ron Raines (also deserving of an Emmy) is amazing.
There are amazing actors on this show who are drowning in the crappy editing and camera work. I have similar issues with AMC. The issues that arise from changes that could be made to better the show but instead after two months its the same old same old. Just use more wide shots and use a tripod to steady the shots if you need too. It’s called a steady cam for a reason!!!
Here Endth My Guiding Light Rant!
