The Past According To Greenlee

Normally I would love Greenlee the Biyotch Brat but lets face it she’s like almost 40 now and just like Erica it looks rather ridiculous when “mature” women act as though they are 20-somethings.

Greens is telling Ryan that Kendall’s influence in the company has run it a ground and she’s a boyfriend stealer and always ridden on her coat tails going back to when Greenlee worked for Erica.  First, when Greenlee gave her half of the company to Babe with a letter stating she hoped that Babe ran the company into the ground I’m sure that was sound for Fusion.  The guy thing was always Greenlee taking Kendall’s left overs.  Greenlee set out to specifically hurt Kendall so she could get everything when she married Ryan.  The man that Kendall loved.  Aidan is also another of Kendall’s ex’s.  How about when Kendall gave Greenlee a baby because she wanted Ryan’s child and she walked away from both the baby and Ryan.  Then she came back to town and stole the child she abandoned.  Or when Greenlee so jealous of Kendall destroyed her on the stand at her trial for killing Michael Cambias by revealing she wasn’t pregnant.  Besides the potential of Kendall getting the death penalty at the time, she hurt Bianca by revealing the truth about her pregnancy! Oh and here’s the kicker (if you go by history), Greenlee can sue for Fusion all she wants but the Lease on the building is in Kendall’s name.  So if she wins the suit that means Kendall could vacate Fusion and Confusion from “Her” Building!  Greenlee is the QUEEN of selfish!

All of that said, I’m loathing Greenlee and it’s a good thing.  Why you ask, well thanks for asking, it’s because there hasn’t been someone to loath in a long time.  I think deep down we all miss the cat fights and back stabbing.

I love Josh (I know you are shocked, lol).  It was great to see him today with Kendall.  Colin Egglesfield has amazing chemistry with the women on this show from Susan who plays his mom, to Babe (Alexa Havins) and his sisters Kendall (Alicia Minshew) and Bianca (Eden Riegel).  Now if he could just have some chemistry moments with Chrishell Stause (Amanda Dillon) that would be awesome!!!

So Derek Frye’s left town and that just conveniently leaves the Chief-of-police’s job open.  Paging Detective Jesse Hubbard….

Heaven and Earth Part II

Watching Tad and Dixie have the ending they should have had so long ago gave us all closure.  Honestly though, I think this ending was far better than what the old writers could have done back in 2006.  They gave us a couple of days of Tad and Dixie working out their complicated “life” together.  They gave Tad a purpose and a reason to fight and live.  Cady McClain did an awesome job with Dixie, from haunting Adam to telling Tad it’s time he moved on.

The moving on part is huge for a Character who hasn’t had a decent romance since Dixie “died” the first time.  Well there was the opportunity to have Simone and Tad together which was so much fun to watch.  Teri and Mikey had amazing chemistry (yet another lost opportunity)!  So now Tad needs to find a woman he loves and aches. His relationship with Krystal is built on a love that has less romance and passion and more respect and loyalty.  Tad needs a great storyline now.  I’ve got some ideas but nothing worthy of Tad the Cad.  I’m still thinking.

Oh and yeah…could they stop calling Kathy by the name of “Kate”.  After all the child has never been known by the name of Kate.  Besides there already is a Kate…Teenage Kate Jefferson changed her name to Kelsey when she came to PV in the 1990’s.  Apparently the Martin’s are fond of changing their names (Joey aka Jake), lol.

Now what???  It seems that now that the storylines have all played out (save one, Richie Novak’s connection to Zach and JR) and the new stories aren’t there to prop the show.  Jesse and Angie are married now what?  Jake Martin’s decided to stay in PV, now what?  Greenlee’s had her rebound sex, now what?  Kathy’s been revealed as Kate, now what?  Colby, Dre, Cass and Frankie are just reciting dialogue of no importance.  It just seems the entire cast right now is reciting dialogue of no importance.  It gives me an uneasy feeling when I see everything flat like things are right now on AMC.

Ryan’s Old BFF

So when was it exactly that Jake and Ryan became BFF’s from the old days?  Here’s the skinny.  Gillian was married to Jake after Ryan’s rape trial and rejection of Gillian.  Jake went to Chechnya and Ryan rescued him for Gillian.  Gillian and Jake tried to work out their marriage, even conceiving a child, but Gillian would always love Ryan.  When Ryan realized how much he needed and loved his princess the two got back together leaving Jake to find new love with Greenlee and then Mia.  Jake and Ryan loathed or better yet “tolerated” each other.  So when I saw these two all doing the man hug and acting like they were bud from way back my immediate reaction was…”WTF”!

Then during Angie’s consult with HER patient (Ryan), Jake pops in to see his BFF and immediately starts giving Ryan info about some experimental memory program a friend of his is running.  Despite Angie reminding Jake that this was HER patient and that the procedure he was offering was experimental Jake continued to tend to ANGIE’S patient.   Then in the corridor of PVH Jake (who’s not on staff, Can you say lawsuit for PVH) yells at Angie that at one time he did work at PVH, in fact was Chief of Staff and she had better never question him in front of a patient again!  Oh really Dr. Crazy Man, if anything he broke the rules with ANGIE’S Patient!!!!  Then he tells Ryan it’s a risk worth taking…you know this experimental brain surgery!  And in case Jake missed the whole picture…Ryan has 2 count them 2 children that he is responsible for and he’s healthy other than losing 4 years of his memory.  Although Ryan getting a lobotomy might be interesting! This whole thing left me scratching my head.

I loved the Zen Erica.  She was all cool and new agey right up until she discovered she was replaced on New Beginnings, lol :)  Carmen I love you and hope you get out of prison with Erica and get a s/l, lol!

Finally

Okay so yesterday we saw Amanda and Josh on screen.  I say WAHOO!!!  Now I’m hoping these two hotties get together for some passion and trouble.  That would make my summer.

Annie and Ryan were…well on screen.  Need I delve into the lack of chemistry, or even life between these two characters?  I fear for Melissa Egan’s tenure on the show.  Cam’s lucky because Brian Frons thinks of him as his alter ego so his job is safe for as long as he wants it but poor Melissa/Annie got stuck with Ryan in one lame s/l after another and now look at her character…she’s so pathetic.

We’ve seen Melissa take Annie to a level of fire and then she became a waif again to suit the “Manly Man” Ryan Lavery.  I’d like to see Annie decided to be the firecracker that we all know is locked inside.  With Jonathan off the canvas we can’t even have her use Hockett to get her pregnant so she could pass her child off as Ryan’s.  Nope instead Ryan wonders if he ever loved Annie (please the dope married her) and she thinks he’s going to sleep with someone from his past.  Any who, I really like Melissa Egan and I think she’s capable of being the next baddie biyotch in town.  We haven’t had a Natalie type chickie in a long time.  Can you say Meow?

Is it me or does it seem that Rebecca Budig doesn’t have chemistry with anyone but Alicia Minshew?  Seriously, Greenlee and Josh were basking in the after glow and I was like…she looks like she’s kissing her brother.  But Colin was all sexy and believable.  What’s up with that?  So the only two people Greenlee’s had any chemistry with is Zach and Kendall.  Even that flame between Ryan and Greenlee seemed  kind of Zzzzzzzzzzz. And a show of hands of those of you who do not think that Zach and Greenlee will go horizontal?

Yikes…Say It Ain’t So!

All I can say at this point is thank goodness for fast forward!  Ryan and Greenlee together is a colossal mistake!  First off…Ryan’s still front and center even though he has no storyline.  How is this possible?  Secondly now they are going to put Greenlee and Ryan back together because of their “Soulmate” love?  Cut me a break would you.  Ryan’s only soulmate was Gillian Andrassy…PERIOD!  And Greenlee’s only soulmate was, is and will always be Greenlee!!!  Yep I know what you thought I was going to say…it’s Leo. Not true, Leo worshipped Greenlee and Greenlee liked being worshipped.  I always felt Leo loved her more that she loved him.

I’m disappointed that all of this time and energy has been dumped on Ryan’s floundering s/l and yet nothing has been given to Josh, Amanda and Julia (who’s now dead).  Ryan’s been written into a corner with this “Amnesia” s/l and it isn’t the least bit interesting.  I know at first it was designed to cause trouble for the Slater’s but that landed with a dud.  Frankly I could really do with out the who Flashback redux of “Rylee”.  Stick a fork in this one…it’s done!!!

If I were writing something for Miss Greenlee I would have her get pregnant with Aidan’s child but have her sleep with Josh as well so she wouldn’t know who’s child it was right away.  I would write that her “hostile womb” was only to Ryan’s sperm (an alergy or something) and give this woman who doesn’t want a baby, a baby.  She’s the most selfish person on the face of the planet (even more so than Kendall) so for her to have a baby might be funny.  Not only that there would be the question…would she do anything different with her child than Mary did with her?

I like Greenlee and Zach being friends and that he’s her go to guy and in this situation it would put him in an awkward place with his wife because her brother would be involved.  Greenlee could torment Josh in a way to get back at Kendall and use Zach who of course won’t have any of it but sticks by his best mate.  And poor Aidan will struggle with possibly raising someone else’s child.  A direct mirror of what he and Kendall did.

But then again…I’m not writing the show.  So to sum up…NO to Greenlee and Ryan version 6.0.   Enough already…let that poor relationship die already!

Hey Greg Nelson!  It sure is wonderful to see you and hey I’m really bummed out that you got shot and all but I noticed at the hospital when you got coffee for everyone you were holding the coffees in your supposedly shot up arm.  What’s up with that?  Did Frankie give you some serious drugs or what?  Dude make sure you aren’t driving later, K!

Heaven and Earth

To think it only took poisoned pancakes and an arterial bleed to bring Dixie and Tad back together. I was loving the action the last couple of days.  I know there are a lot of you that feel otherwise but to see a larger use of the cast was a hit for me.

Take Josh’s entrance and scene stealing moment.  He had little or no dialog but he leaned in and hugged his grandparents who were waiting on news of Tad was priceless.  Dixie tormenting Adam to tell Tad the truth and the fallout that will be fueling s/l for the next several months was on the mark with “Ghost” Dixie’s arrival.  Also, reusing that GH: Nightshift rooftop special effects and set was a great idea as well.

I know, I know…but Angie and Jesse deserve to be happy.  Sure but during sweeps we got a wedding, a death, a near death, the capture of a bad guy, Jake finding his purpose in life, a break-up of a couple and a friendship, a secret revealed, a secret about to be revealed, a ghost, and after life experience, young folks hitting the sheets, an introduction of a new character and the bringing into the s/l some of our favorite characters whom we do not get to see nearly enough.  For me this was all great soap stuff.  Reminiscent of the old days before McT brought Ryan back from really bad acting classes!

I’d like the show to use more of the hospital set.  They should bring back the solarium where the denizens gather and wait for friends, test results, family and a slew of other things.  ATWT use this type of set to great advantage in the 90’s.  They had the cafeteria and the lounge sets where the doctors and nurses ran into each other on break. Not everyone was a doctor or a nurse.  Iva Snyder worked in the administration department and Nancy and Ellen would be there working on fund raising activities.  Plausible and convenient so it works on many levels.

I can’t wait for Beth Elhers to arrive in the Valley.  I’ve loved Beth as Harley Davidson Cooper on GL for as long as I can remember.  At least 3 Alan-Michael’s ago.  She’ll be such an asset.  I think all the hullabaloo about her possibly being cast as Liza Colby are unwarranted.  With Colby in town it makes perfect sense to bring back Liza and since Marcy Walker is digging her post AMC/Acting life I say bring Liza back.  In an ideal world we all want to see the face we associate with the character but sometimes its just not workable.  Look at Lee Meriweather as Ruth Brent Martin.  Ruth was a primary fixture in PV and when Mary Fickett wanted to retire they brought in Lee to pinch hit and we love her as Ruth almost as much as Mary who originated the role.

I know I’m in the minority but right now I think AMC has been the best right now than in the last five years and I have for the first time real hope for the future.

The Write Stuff

I have to really give credit to TPTB for investing in the show.  Wait did I really say that???  Yep that I did friends and neighbors of the Valley!

Yesterday they brought Ruth back again to visit Jake in the hospital.  Fantastic!   Thank you Ms. Lee Merriweather!!!  I’m loving the show for the most part.  There are a few revisionist issues that have been stuck in my craw but for the most part I’m on board.

It’s just that I feel for the first time in 5 LONG years that TPTB are finally caring about the fans and our wants.  It’s a new day in the Valley my friends.  We’ve suffered through the transition of “after strike” writing and now it’s coming together.  Old favs coming back from time to time.  Opal we’ve missed your humor and of course the wonderful Angie and Jesse.  Finally Pine Valley is starting to resemble the rest of America with it’s diversity.

I feel they are getting back to the classics of character driven s/l’s.  Tad searching for Kate, Aidan and Greenlee’s struggles as a couple with baggage and secrets.  Tad and Kendall surviving betrayal only to become stronger as a couple.  Jake’s even got a back story and a future story that, it would appear, is to be character driven.  Adam’s mental break that we see isn’t really a mental break but Dixie guilt haunting him and how it is affecting his children.  Joe and Ruth and their sons have had interaction as well.

I know to some it is taking forever to rebuild our show but stick with it because I see some light in Pine Valley. Rob’s kind of dangling lost in the transition as is Richie but it’s important to have a really bad guy and just a moderately bad guy (think Adam in his day).  Other wise everyone is stepford happy people and who wants to watch that 5 days a week.

Carmen trying to reunite Jack and Erica is also priceless.   Really could we see Erica with anyone but Jackson at this point.  Injecting a little Carmen and Opal into their relationship dynamic will keep this couple from becoming boring.

Improvement Noted

I have to post this about AMC and OLTL…these two shows have been making vast improvements.  The ratings are slowly rebounding.  Yes there will always be something to Rant (thankfully) about I still see positive changes.

Next week for Sweeps were are going to get a wedding, romance and yes even a little action going on.  Could TPTB actually understand that if you write something decent and true to the heritage of the show we will watch.  It’s what we wanted all along.  Faces/Characters we recognize, Character driven s/l’s and how about Romance, Romance, Romance.

I’m not blind TPTB, all of these changes come with a price tag but I for one am grateful for the changes.  Look at OLTL, Tina’s coming back (the original Tina), David’s home for a short stay and the teen story is very interesting.  It’s not the usual diappointing my parents because I’m pregnant story.  In the case of Starr Manning, her father’s psychotic.  Nice twist don’t ya think?

GH…well other than Spinelli and Diane the show storylines are silly and morose.

I read a rather disturbing interview with ATWT’s Chris Goutman in SOD yesterday.  Basically he said he doesn’t care what the fans want, he doesn’t care what the fans think and he doesn’t want to hear either from them.  Next sentence he’s sure that the show is on the right track and that viewers will like what’s coming up.  Excuse me!  Did I miss the bus on this one?  This is a very odd way to produce a show.  And he’s all but given up on ATWT.  He said something to the effect that when a shows has been on for 52 years can you really expect it will continue forever?  Are you serious about this?  Dude it’s really time for you to move on if you have so little faith in the medium.  Maybe P&G are planning to pull support from GL and ATWT, who knows.

Off The Spoiler Train

It’s been several months since I’ve last seen a spoiler on purpose.  It is indeed making my viewing of AMC much better.  The show seems to be improving steadily which of course is a big thing.  I think before when I would read the spoilers it would just fire me up to be upset with the storylines I couldn’t stand but now it’s like the old days before the computer and instant gratification.

The pluses on the show right now are:

1) Dixie’s haunting and subsequent personal journey.
2) Krystal and Tad’s conversation about what happens once Tad finds “Kate” and what it would mean to the 6 year old’s life to have her father claiming her.
3) Babe getting a spine and Richie showing his true colors for the first time to Arabella Carey.
4) JR’s tenderness toward his son.

Downsides:

1) Ryan’s amnesia.  Sure I know he’s had a flash of memory about making love to Annie in the barn but please end this fiasco now!

2) Ryan and Annie’s relationship.  This isn’t working either.  Ryan in general is lost as a character.  Too many attempts to redefine the character.  It started when Ryan returned back in 2003 and has been continuing since then.  Five years later and the character is a wash in Front burner nonsense.  Ryan’s constant front burner scenes have left me scratching my head.
3) Colby and Frankie as a couple.  He’s a doctor and even if they SORAS Colby she’s still in college.  Even with the recast (bummer) Colby still looks like the High School student we all remember her being.
4) The lack of using Josh and Amanda.  These two would be hot together if they were paired.  And instead of seeing these hot and vivacious 20 somethings we are stuck with Ryan’s Amnesia.

I’m hoping things continue to improve and that the ratings rebound as well.  Could TPTB finally actually really get the picture?
